In a wastewater treatment plant, the clarifier is essential for separating suspended solids from liquid. It consists of a clarifier tank, a large, shallow basin where water slows to allow solids to settle. Inlet structures introduce influent flow, while outlet structures permit the exit of clarified water. A sludge removal system, often including scrapers or rakes, collects and moves settled sludge to a sludge hopper for further treatment or disposal. The overflow weir at the top of the tank ensures the even exit of treated water. Together, these components effectively enhance water quality by removing particulate matter, preparing it for subsequent treatment stages.
